Electrodeionization. ENERGO EDI machines

ENERGO EDI - water treatment machines for water purification with electrodeionization (EDI) technology. EDI is an electro-membrane process of water purification in which both the properties of ion-exchange resins and properties of ion-selective (ion exchange, ionite) membranes are used. ENERGO EDI machines allow receiving large volumes of highly purified water without the substantial chemical usage that is usually required for the regeneration of ion exchange material. EDI is the final stage in the production of ultrapure water and is placed after the reverse osmosis. Main expenditure component of the EDI process is electricity. Electricity consumption for the EDI may vary from about 0.132 to 0.793 (kW∙h/m³ of demineralized water), depending on the quality of source water and the requirements for the purified water.

Application of EDI:

Power plants - in conjunction with reverse osmosis and nanofiltration machines to fill the loops and for makeup of heat and power equipment. Replace the steps of ion exchange mixed bed filters.

Nuclear power plants - for purification and concentration of radioactive waste in order to obtain water of high purity, as well as to fill and to makeup the demineralized water loops.

Electronic and radio engineering industry - as the ultimate stage for water purification process that aims the “A” and “B” water quality.

Pharmaceuticals and hemodialysis.

Machine description:

-          Electrical Resistivity of purified water is 15-18 MOhm-cm.

-          EDI machines are made of the identical modules (cells).

-          The main components of the cell are the following: ionites (anion, cation), membranes, electrodes, dilution cells, concentration cells and electrode chambers.

-          Easy to start and operate: the minimum operator intervention, as compared with regeneration of mixed-bed; simple analytical instrumentation and control.

-          Modules can be assembled both vertically and horizontally.

-          Quick-connect sanitary type clumps make cell replacement quick and simple. The time required for the service is minimal.

-          No chemicals, recycling and environment for the development of microorganisms.

-          Cell life-cycle is up to five years.

-          All machines are designed by the unified technological scheme with the unified systems. All dimensions depend on the required performance, the type of the EDI cells and of the additional equipment needed.

-          HYDROTECH uses EDI cells from the leading manufacturers: GE Water & Process Technologies, Ionpure, Snowpure/Electropure, DOW/OMEXELL.

Main characteristics of the ENERGO EDI machines (additional options may increase the following values)

1)     The power consumption values in the table are average. The true values are calculated based on actual capacity of the machine, taking into account the fact that from 0,05 to 0,4 kWh of electricity may be expended for one cubic meter of desalinated water. Additional electrical equipment may be installed at customer’s request.
